A few weeks ago I had my first experience trying to take in the waist of pants. I was a little reluctant to start the task, having never done it before, so I started researching. I found a lot of different techniques. Some required you taking part of the pants apart, and getting out the seam ripper more than I have to just doesn’t seem like a good idea. So, I kept looking till I found two options for taking in the waist that were the quick, easy, and look great. Plus, with both ways you can easily let them back out later if you gain weight or need to re-adjust.
Easy way to take in the waist of pants (No cutting, No Machine)
How to Take in Jeans at the Waist
The pants I was working on were heavier jeans, and did prove to be a little tricky to sew on my machine. I haven’t perfected sewing with denim yet, and my stitches don’t look as good as I would like. One day if I ever get the hang of sewing through that kind of thickness I will let you know, but until then I do the best I can.
Have you taken in pants before? What about sewing with denim, any tips you would like to share?

This is great! My husband has lost a lot of weight in the past year and all of his pants are falling off him and we can’t buy him a whole new wardrobe. I’ll have to try this on some of his pants!

We had a church activity about making some basic alterations to your pants, but she pretty much said to avoid taking in the waist unless it’s like male dress pants which come with the extra space to do that… so I appreciate the videos and your experience in case I want to do that too!

Great tips. I have a feeling I’m going to need to know how to do this at some point for Jack. His pants won’t stay up!

It worked! The 2nd video was exactly what I needed. I had to take 3 inches out of the waist of my son’s new dress pants and I was worried about it because I’m not a very good sewer… This makes me feel like Super Mom!

I know exactly what you mean! I’m so glad the video helped.
