I mentioned last week that I am trying to redo and organize my craft space. I started with buying some plastic storage containers to hold the little craft items I had floating around.
When I found out that this month’s Silhouette Challenge theme was “organization” I knew it would be the perfect time to separate everything and make some labels for my boxes.
I decided to use sketch pens because I really, really hate my handwriting. I probably would have thrown out 20 labels trying get it just right, so this was just easier and prettier.
This was my first time using sketch pens, and I have to say I am in love with them. They look so good! It was so much fun to see it drawing out my creation. My only tip for using them, is if they are brand new, write with them first to get the ink flowing. As soon as I did that the ink flowed perfectly, and I had no problem with skipping.
I started off by designing how I wanted my labels to look. Once I had it just right I selected what area I wanted sketched.
Then I went back and selected the outer line to cut. I never unloaded my mat. I just sent it right back through, so that it would cut perfectly around the shape.
See my pretty labels! I unloaded my card- stock labels, and loaded a piece of double- sided adhesive. All I did was change the material setting to double- sided adhesive, leaving everything else the same and cut again. Below you can see the adhesive is the exact same shape as my label.
Pulling off the white layer first, I lined up and applied the label.
After the label is on the adhesive, I removed the backing and applied it to my plastic boxes. Easy enough, right?
I know I keep saying it, but I love how they turned out! Having a organized and pretty craft area makes it such a happier place to create.
To make the labels I referred to these wonderful sketch pen tutorials from the thinking closet and Chicken Scratch NY.

These are great looking Breanna – Thanks for the tip about using the pens first. I didn’t do that when I first tried sketch pens and had a bit of skipping, so this is very handy to know.

Shara @ Palmettos and Pigtails
How cute Brenna! I’m completely intimidated by my new Silhouette, but have made it a mission this year to pin more functional projects, so I can actually learn how to use {and appreciate} the thing! Thanks for your tutorial!

Karen Marie Kedzuch
Brenna, I am so excited to meet another seamstress on the Silhouette Challenge. I am setting up my first Create Room and your labels will come in handy. I can not wait to see what you come up with for the next challenge. I have a baby quilt in mind with my first time using the Cameo fabric process. I am looking forward to sharing it with every one.
brenna
I’m so glad you like them. I hope they work well for you. I’m super excited about next months challenge too! I just bought some stuff today to work on it. I’m hopefully doing some crafty wall art/ hanging. Can’t wait for you to see it.
Heather
I really love these labels, Brenna! And it looks like you and I are in love with the same Reklame Script Font! I also used it in my blog design and use it on many projects. I wish my handwriting looked more like that font!!! Thanks for sharing. I’m probably going to go home and label all the things with this type of label now…I really love that you did them with the sketch pen. By the way, I’m stopping by from Lauren’s Reader Showcase. Congrats on your feature!
brenna
Thank you so much Heather! I have to admit I have a ton of fonts, but that one is always my go too. Sketch pens are awesome, they are my new obsession.
