Need a new décor item for you kitchen {OR} have a wedding or anniversary gift idea? Check out this {ELEGANT} Décor Night Light!
I personally made this one for my husband for our anniversary, customized with our names and initial. How did I put this beautiful creation together? I’m so glad you asked! It was super easy using my Silhouette Cameo electronic cutting machine. Here’s the skinny:
First, here are the supplies you will need…
- Glass block
- Clear light accessory (use LED for safety!)
- Glass etching cream
- Masking tape
- Vinyl*
- Coordinating ribbon
- Cut File for design (or create your own!)
*If an electronic cutting machine is unavailable to you, don’t despair! Just grab some craft paint (and stencil, if needed) and create your own design!
- First, “frost” your glass crafting block with glass etching cream (we love Armour!). Tape of the edge of your block with masking tape and liberally apply the glass etching cream, following the provided directions. Wash and dry before proceeding.
- Second, cut and apply your vinyl design to your glass block. I find it’s easier to line up the design with the block still empty.
- Measure the “working area” of your glass block, accounting for the thickness of the sides. Cut your cardstock or paper, roll into a tube shape and insert through the bottom of the glass block. Once inserted, allow the cardstock to unroll and check the sides for a comfortable fit. {This gives the block a “background” color, rather than a grayish look from the frosting}
- Unpackage and insert your lighting assembly. You can use a string of clear lights (recycle those Christmas lights!) or a single-bulb night light assembly.
- Finally, stretch out a length of ribbon, placing the glass block on top. You should be able to adjust your ribbon by sliding it back and forth beneath the block. Pull tight and tie a bow. If using a sheer ribbon, you may want to layer the ribbon a few times around the block for greater contrast.
And {TA-DA}, project complete! How did yours turn out? I’m sure it’s {BEAUTIFUL}!
Not only are these beautiful décor items to display in a kitchen or living room, these make wonderful gifts! And with the simplicity of this project, I can think of plenty of people that would {LOVE} to receive one of these beauties! My toes thank me too—when I don’t kick random objects in the dark!).
What other designs can you think of for glass blocks? Filled with {SPARKLE} tulle? Flower petals? I’m excited to hear what everyone comes up with!
Thank you so much, Becky. That truly would be an awesome gift for a special occasion or just a nice home decor addition. I love the idea of being able to personalize it.
Be sure to follow Becky for more crafty fun!

Love this block. Where did you find the split monogram? It is really pretty.

I LOVE this. I’ve always loved the glass blocks. That vinyl monogram is beautiful. Just my style. Too bad I don’t have a Silhouette! I really want to make this for my husband and I.
