These recipes helped me finally make my own DIY Hair Products and More. Not only can I feel confident that they are better for my family, they work incrediably and save me a lot of money.
My husband and I were talking last night about the efforts we go to to grow our own food and make our own stuff. We love creating and working in the dirt, don’t get me wrong, but our true motivator is that we want a better, safer product for our family that we can afford. The only sustainable way for us to afford to do that is, you guessed it, is to do it ourselves
This mindset runs over into so much of our life from having meat animals to making laundry detergent. So it’s no surprise that I have been searching for DIY hair products and more.
Hair products are another one of those things that can be pricey period, and of course, for safer ingredients you are talking even more dollar signs. I knew that in order to get the products I wanted, I needed to make it myself.

Strong & Long Shampoo
This recipe used:
- Natural Shampoo Base
- Rosemary Essential Oil
- Spearmint Essential Oil
Although I was very excited to see Shampoo and Conditioner in this months box, I was a little nervous. I have long, wavy (often frizzy), extremely thick hair. Testing this out on my hair was truly going to put this DIY shampoo to the test. I have tried so many natural and expensive hair products that have been big flops, so I was really hoping this one didn’t turn out the same way.
Thankfully, my worry was for no reason. With just a small amount of this shampoo it produced a great lather and worked through my hair very easily.
Strength & Length Conditioner
This recipe used:
- Natural Conditioner Base
- Rosemary Essential Oil
- Spearmint Essential Oil
Just like the shampoo this lathered and worked thru my hair very nicely. The next test would be to see how my hair looked after it dried. I didn’t do these recipes any favors the first time trying them, and went to bed that night with damp hair. To my surprise, my hair was so smooth and sleek looking in the morning, not frizzy at all, and it was so easy to run my fingers through my hair. I even wore my hair down that day, which if you know me, it is very rare for it to not to be braided or pulled back these days. This will definetely be my new shampoo and conditioner from now on.
Hopefully, this natural shampoo and conditioner bases are something Simply Earth starts selling, but if not I’ll be looking for a place to buy this from. I love that a natural base makes it easy for anyone to customize based on their hair type needs.
DIY Dry Shampoo
You can customize this recipe to better match your hair color! You apply this dry shampoo with a makeup brush to any areas prone to oiliness and the optional additions can add a nice aroma and help balance oil production.
This recipe used:
- Almond Oil (optional)
- Fit Essential Oil Blend (optional)
- Cornstarch or Arrowroot Powder
- Cocoa Powder
This was a really neat recipe to make and just needed a few extra kitchen staples to make. The smell of this DIY Dry Shampoo is incrediable. I can’t wait to try it out. I keep waiting on my hair to look oily, but it’s been 3 days since I washed my hair with the DIY shampoo and conditioner from above and my hair still looks great.
Nails without Fail Oil
The oils used in this recipe are formulated to help improve nail apperance, moisturize and aid in growth. It’s quick to mix together and just use a cotton ball to apply to nails and cuticles.
This recipe used:
- Almond Oil
- Rosemary Essential Oil
- Palmarose Essential Oil
My gardener nails defintely need some work, and unfortuanately I also pick at the dry ares around my nails and cuticles. So, this oil is absolutely a perfect addition to my routine. Ok, so I don’t have a routine, but this will be good for my minimalist aproach.
Fit Roll On
Apply this to pulse points to energize and prevent snacking! Um, yes! I need this every day around 3:00.
This recipe uses:
- Almond Oil
- Fit Essential Oil Blend
- 10 ml Roll- on Bottle
I thought this was going to be my least favorite thing in this box. However, when I smelled the Fit Essential Oil Blend, I quickly got excited about this roll on. I think it might be my favorite essential oil ever! The aroma is so energizing and makes me so happy every time I smell it. The roll- on recipes seem to be my most used item in each months box (using them almost daily) and I defintely think that will be the case for this month as well.
Salon Day Diffuser Blend
The aroma of this blend is supposed to be reminiscent of a day spent at the salon.
This recipes used:
- Fit Essential Oil Blend
- Rosemary Essential Oil
- Spearmint Essential Oil
I can’t say this blend reminded me of being in the salon, apparently I have been goign to the wrong place. But, because this blend used the Fit Essential Oil I absolutely loved it. I will be diffusing this everywhere.
