First of all, let me just say, I love my new Silhouette! It’s the perfect tool for the multi- crafter (someone with too many hobbies,) and now my partner in crime in sewing, scrapbooking, crafts and DIY projects.
This month, I am joining some wonderful ladies to participate in the Silhouette Challenge and to share my first project with you. I know it is an unusual first project, but this is actually something my husband has been asking for me to make for a while. He has been wanting me to add a little sign or some kind of decal to the chicken coop he built for a while now, but until my silhouette I wasn’t really sure how to go about it. So because I love my husband and our chickens (who laid their first egg this week) I decided to do a little something for their coop. It’s still kind of a work in process, I want to add some kind of lettering, I’m just not sure what I want it to say yet. I bought all of my shapes from the Silhouette Online Store, and played with the sizes till I got them just right. Because this was my first project I learned a couple new things. How to Ungroup (right click for the option) and how to flip an image (opening the replicate option- the icon looks like a flower in the top right corner- and using the mirror option.) For this project I used the vinyl kit I bought a few weeks ago (I highly recommend purchasing this if you are interested in doing vinyl projects) and it had all the tools I needed to get the job done. Of course, because this was my first project, I cut out a lot of paper chickens before I got up the nerve to use the actual vinyl. After I finally did it, I realized how silly it was that I got all worked up about it in the first place. It was super easy! I used the transfer paper and lined up my little chicken family just how I wanted them and applied. I loved how it turned out. I had a lot of fun doing my first project and adding a personal touch to our little coop.
See how happy they look now… OK, not really, but I just wanted to take a picture of a few of the girls.

brenna
Thank you so much, Stephanie!
Katie
I am so jealous! I want a sillhoutte so badly. I love that decal you made though — so cute!
brenna
Thanks Katie, They usually do a lot of giveaways for them. I will let you know when I hear of the next one.
Mariely

Nancy P.@thebittersideofsweet
I have a friend who let me play with her silhouette! I want to make cupcake liners! I
brenna
I never even thought about that, I bet it was a lot of fun.
Katie @ Made to be a Momma
How Cute! Uh I want a silhouette soo badly! ๐
brenna
Katie, I know you would make amazing things with it. I know like 4 giveaways that just ended for them, but I know another round will come soon. I will let you know if I hear of any.
Julie
That is really cute. I would have never thought of adding a cute decal to a chicken coup, but it’s adorable.
brenna
Thanks, Julie. It is an unusual project.
Jeanie @ create&babble
The coop looks so cute! And I love the photo of the chickens!
brenna
Thank yo so much, Jeanie.
Emily
Brenna, it turned out so cute. Love the little touch on their coop! Pinned!
Valerie
I love this! I was just telling my fiance yesterday that we should get some chickens when we get married. He doesn’t think city code will allow for it, but if we did, I would totally decorate their coop!
brenna
Thank you. Having chickens is awesome, Valerie. It’s usually against city code to have a rooster, because of the noise. The hens are usually quiet and calm and allowed in most places.
Tanya
I love your chicken coop! I’ve been wanting one for a while. Cute decal! This would be so cute on a wood sign. My MIL would love it. Oh my, gotta add it to my Christmas to do list.
brenna
YAY! So glad you liked it, hope it make a great gift for you, Tanya.
Vanessa
I love that you decorated your coop! That’s so something my husband would laugh at me for doing. ๐
brenna
Thank you, Vanessa!
Lauren @ The Thinking Closet
Okay, that’s probably the cutest chicken coop on the block now that you added that extra detail. And way to knock it out of the park with your first vinyl project! Are you hooked yet? Because it can be addicting! That feeling of, “Wow, that wasn’t so hard! And it looks so professional. I wonder what else I can do….” I know that feeling well! ๐
So glad you joined our group, Brenna. I can tell you are going to be a huge source of inspiration!
Warmly,
Lauren

Looks good! I’ve never done a vinyl decal, but I love that you made chickens… for the chickens! Cute, and practical, my kind of thing.
brenna
Thank you so much, Katelyn. I am definitely all for practical.
Kathleen
You have chickens?!!!!! OMG, I’m so jealous. I grew up on a farm and my job was to gather the eggs and in general to take care of the chickens. I want chickens so bad. Love this Silhouette project. I don’t have a Silhouette, but I want one bad. I do have a Cricut though. Can’t wait to see what else you come up with. Great job.
brenna
Kathleen, that is so cool that you had them growing up, I would have loved that as a kid. We got them when they were a day old back in February. They are just starting to lay eggs, so we are sooooo excited. I never knew that having chickens would be so much fun. I think the Cricut and Silhouette are pretty close in what they can do.
Kathleen
Well, you know you never appreciate that kind of stuff when you are a kid. I wish I had some now though. Yes, the Cricut and the Silhouette are very similar. It seems the software on the Silhouette is easier to navigate than the Cricut Craftroom is. I rarely use mine because I can never seem to manipulate things like I want to. ๐
Hezzi-D
Those are super cute! Great job! You are so lucky to have fresh eggs too…yum!
brenna
Thanks, Heather, we are loving it.
Rachel @ I Love My Disorganized Life
I love this, Brenna! I have to say, I am SO nervous to use my Silhouette. I think I need more tools, though. I have so many projects that are just waiting to get out of my head!
brenna
Rachel, I definitely was too. If I hadn’t of join this challenge I would be putting off using it still. That is why I knew I needed a deadline.
Ginger
I found your blog via silhouetteschoolblog Love your chicken coop. Would you share where you found the plans? We are in the process of deciding what kind of chicken coop to build. Thank you so much.
brenna
I don’t remember where we found the plans, but my husband said it was called a Catawba Converticoop. I hope that helps!
