Thank you to Pop Secret for sponsoring this family movie day complete with a parent friendly fort!
Today was my 27th birthday, and I was very lucky to have my son and husband home all day. Unfortunately, all of us were feeling kind of under the weather, so we decided to have a movie day – complete with popcorn and a fort! This wasn’t your typical fort though, it was a mom and dad friendly fort. You know a fort where we could relax in our recliners and watch a family movie. Some might say this was cheating. But, Hey! It is my birthday after all. Plus our son had so much fun helping to build it I don’t think he minded that this fort was geared a little more towards his parent’s comfort.
We decided to make our fort structure our of PVC. It’s super affordable, and my husband is always glad to have extra materials like this around the house.
We used 3/4in PVC, which was light but sturdy. Each end is a 4′ x 4′ and we used 3- 8′ long PVC pipes to connect the ends. The frame is connected twice at the top and once at the bottom in the back.
I think the guys were pretty proud of their accomplishment. All that was left was for us to cover it with blankets and sheets and enjoy! Of course, our fort and movie time wouldn’t be complete without popcorn!
Someone decided to hog the popcorn, so our movie night turned into a popcorn stand off/ fight. Our dog enjoyed the stray bullets popcorn pieces that were left behind. Thank goodness I got 2 boxes with this Pop Secret coupon on their Facebook page.
I think our parent friendly fort was a big hit! Dad is currently comfortably enjoying a movie in the comfort of his usual spot. Our son is begging that we leave it up for a while. I have to say I have never wrote a blog post in a fort before, it’s kind of fun.
I think this over the couch fort would be perfect for birthday parties and sleepovers. It might even be fun to do something like this over a child’s bed as a permanent fort!
I hope you will be inspired to create your own family fort and don’t forget the popcorn. Right now you can get a $1.00 off Pop Secret by liking their facebook page!

Love the concept. I might even be able to get my husband involved in this fort play. 🙂
