Do you know what September 8th was? Don’t worry if you didn’t, my son is 3 and that makes it… 3 years that I have forgotten Grandparent’s Day. I know all of you are shaking your head in disappointment.
When you miss a special day 3 years in a row, your gift better be good when you finally do remember. That is why when I saw this idea from Carrie, my silhouette buddy, I knew it would be perfect.
I followed the same concepts as her tutorial. The only thing I really changed were the words, and I used a magnetic photo pocket instead of acrylic . This was the only kind I could find, and it ended up working pretty well. I would recommend that you “break it in” a little before gluing it to the tile. They are pretty stiff at first, so loosening it up makes it easier to get the picture in later.
I played around with the fonts and sizing in the Silhouette Software till the lettering would fit on the tile. Of course, I am still new at this, so I printed out a test version in card-stock before making the final cut.
After I cut out the vinyl, I used transfer paper to position the design in place and glued the frame to the tile. It came together very quickly, and I’m so pleased how it turned out!
I love that this gift can be reused with different pictures over and over. That way grandma’s current favorite can always be on display.
Well, do you think the gift was good enough to be forgiven for the last 3 years?

How cute! I love it!

This is such a neat idea. Don’t worry my oldest is 14 and we have never celebrated grandparents day!

Thanks, Nancy, that makes me feel better. We never celebrated it in my family, but my husbands did. Thus the reason I needed to get on the ball about it.

I love it! I have missed grandparents day every year. But I don’t have children, so does it matter? haha
Christy Garrett @ Uplifting Families
This is a cute idea. hmmm, might have to make coaster for Christmas presents. I would have to add a protective covering to keep the water from ruining the photo.
brenna
That would be great Christy.

Hey Brenna,
I did something like this, only I printed pictures out on tissue paper then Mod Podge’d them onto the travertine tile. They came out so nice. I need to use my cricut more. Wish I had a Silhouette. From what everyone says it’s much easier to use. Cute project. Your son is adorable!
p.s. my son is 29 and I think we did something maybe 1 or 2 times. (hangs head in shame)

I bet your tile did turn out great! I know we never did anything when I was a kid, Kathleen, but my husbands family did.
Grandma Baklarz
He loves us and wants to spend time with us. That’s all we can ask for. The gift was perfect for both of us. Love, Grandps and Grandma Baklarz
