Spring is here! Ok, not really. It’s still way too cold for this southern girl to handle, but that hasn’t stopped our family from enjoying a little spring time joy. (I know my daffodils look a little pitiful, but they are a sign of spring none the less.)
I mean really, what says spring more than 8 chicks running around! Meet our 7 Hens and 1 Rooster. They are actually much bigger than this now, but it is too cold to take them out for a photo shoot. This has already been such an amazing experience, chickens have such neat personalities. Yes, they have personalities.
We can’t wait to start our garden this year. The ground isn’t nearly warm enough to start planting outside, but I thought it would be fun to go ahead and start a few little seedlings. The little mister loved that we got to play with some dirt in the house. This is the first time I have ever started plants in egg shells, so we will see how it goes. You can read more about it here. I know the picture looks a little messy, but did I mention I did this with a 2 year old. I am amazed that the shells are still some what in tack.
A few states south of me strawberry season was in, and every grocery store around was having great sales. We bought A LOT, and put them in the freezer. Well, that was great until meat went on sale, and I had no place to freeze any because of the strawberries. So, out they came, and I made strawberry jam for the first time. I found this recipe in an old cookbook. You cook the jam in the oven all day, and it made my house smell amazing! Thank goodness my first attempt was a success, and it tasted great too.
Are you excited to see spring come?

A. This made me want to start a garden, so I’ll probably be looking at that stuff next time I go to Wally World.
B. I’m making sure the husband NEVER sees this post. He grew up with chickens and since moving to SC it’s only been by the grace of God that I’ve kept him from purchasing chickens. And sometimes a husband can be just as bad as a kid in a toy store. 🙂

Oh, come on Cassie! They’re great.

Thanks, Mariely!

Yay! The chicks. So cute. We need an updated picture Brenna. Remind me in December to do a goals blog post. I need to start canning. I used to do it with my Mom as a kid.

I sure will, Kathleen. This year was my first year doing a goals post and I’m loving it. It has been a lot of fun trying to check things off my list. They are things I know I wouldn’t have gotten to or remembered if I hadn’t wrote the post.
Kathleen
That’s great. I love your blog. I really don’t know how some of these bloggers do all that they do. I don’t know how they, or you, do a post everyday. Your blog design is beautiful as well. I really need to come up with the money to have mine done. It’s a lot of work! If I didn’t have this darn job. 🙂

Thank you, Kathleen. Girl let me tell you, I’m struggling. I had a little freak out last week trying to get stuff done and was totally overwhelmed. I am working very hard to post 3 times a week, I have tried to make that my goal and stick to it. But, on days like last week I have to remind myself this is a hobby and not worth getting that stress out about.
